NEIGHBORHOOD PRIDE

Please be a good neighbor and place your garbage containers in your garage or in the backyard.  They should be kept out of sight.  Let’s all take pride in our neighborhood by replacing those broken windows, keeping the lawns cut and edged and hedges trimmed, picking up all the trash, and having broken down vehicles towed away.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT 2008

Braun Oaks-2008-An Involved Community

National Night Out, sponsored by the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF TOWN WATCH, is a neighborhood crime and drug prevention event that occurs and is celebrated in every city, town and village in the US. In addition to increasing awareness of crime and drug prevention programs, NNO also strengthens neighborhood spirit and community-police partnerships, while sending a message to criminals that "neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime!"

This year, the Texas’ 25th Annual National Night Out will be held in October versus August, hoping that the cooler weather will encourage more residents to participate.   Braun Oaks residents are encouraged participate by getting your ½ block, block, cul-de-sac, or your immediate neighbors out to a shady front yard/s for a pot luck dinner.  You can start simple by:

  1. Get a neighbor/friend to help you plan.
  2. Prepare a simple computer invitation.  Ask them to bring a pot luck dish, their own drinks, chairs, and ask who has a couple of tables.  If you want to start simple, just ask for them to bring drinks and chairs and make it after the dinner hour.  Be sure to include your phone number so they can call you back to confirm their participation.
  3. The time you start is up to you, but you might consider the following:  after work-6:30-7:30ish, and when the sun has gone down…some.
  4. Deliver the invitation to your neighbors.
  5. People are busy, are vacationing, and forget to RSVP, so call them up and ask them to participate.  Sometimes all they need is a friendly reminder and coaxing to get them involved in their little section of the neighborhood.
  6. Register your National Night Out with the San Antonio Police on-line at:  www.sanantonio.gov/sapd/NNO2008.asp
  7. Have a great time in meeting and really talking to and getting to know your neighbors!

If you have any questions or would like some advice, contact Shady Hills residents, Jennifer Bowman, @210-767-8541, Minnie Abrego-Sanchez, @210-862-1084, who have organized several successful block parties, and Wilma Gonzalez, Rustling Breeze resident, @210-684-9178.  They will be happy to answer any of your questions.
